Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP), has been awarded full accreditation from the Royal College of Psychiatrists' Electroconvulsive Therapy Accreditation Service (ECTAS).

Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) is used to treat severe mental health conditions, such as severe depression, mania, and catatonia, particularly when other treatments have proven ineffective and the condition is potentially life-threatening.

This accreditation demonstrates the clinic's commitment to excellence in delivering ECT services, achieving 100% of the Type 1 standards essential for ensuring patient safety, rights, and dignity.

The ECT clinic, based at Bowmere Hopital, Chester received commendation for its well-decorated, spacious environment, which creates a comfortable and welcoming space for patients. It features a separate outpatient lounge designed to enhance the patient experience, reflecting the clinic’s dedication to patient-centered care.

Aoife Coyne, Modern Matron at Bowmere Hospital, commented, "This accreditation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team. We are committed to providing high-quality, safe and supportive treatment, and this recognition validates our efforts to continually improve our services for the benefit of our patients."

The service administers between 35-45 acute ECT courses annually to patients across Cheshire and the Wirral, supported by a well-trained team of experienced nurses, doctors, and support staff.
