Guest blog: Mike Maier, CWP Chair

by CWP News - 30 September 2019

These past few years at CWP have been some of the best of my life, and I am beyond delighted to announce that I have been reappointed as Chair by the Council of Governors for a second three year period starting from 1 June 2019.

Receiving the news that I will be staying with #TeamCWP for another three years is truly an honour. During my first term as Chair I have had the opportunity to visit services, attend team meetings and meet many members of staff, all of whom are eager to share their experiences and discuss ways they feel we can improve our services. One thing that is always very clear to me during these visits is that our staff live the values of CWP and embed them into everything they do, and one of my favourite roles as Chair is awarding some of these outstanding colleagues with the monthly Going the Extra Mile Award.

The last three years have been increasingly challenging in terms of demand on services but the trust has constantly achieved good or exceptional ratings from various sources (including the CQC) and has met its financial targets, so being able to meet with our staff and discuss their achievements is truly a privilege!

Another chance I get to do this is at our annual Recognition Awards, and I’m very excited to be attending our third awards event on Thursday 6 June, where around 200 members of staff who have achieved exceptional service, either through length of service or through outstanding practice, will be in attendance. It is a real highlight of my calendar!

There are so many things that come to mind when I think back on the last three years. A particular highlight for me was seeing the completion of the construction of Ancora House, which has not only gained awards for its design but has just won the National Children and Young People’s Mental Health award for Inpatient Care.

As we increasingly work towards more integrated care, I understand better how highly our services are regarded by our partners in Cheshire and Wirral and look forward to continuing my work as Chair to help people to be the best they can be. Having worked in the private sector across the UK and on three continents, CWP is unquestionably the best organisation I have ever worked for.
