Mother and son start NHS apprenticeships

by CWP News - 15 November 2017

A mother and son are undertaking apprenticeships with a local NHS Trust as a way of furthering their careers.

Lisa Rocke, who currently works as a team secretary for Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s (CWP) Eating Disorder Service, has recently signed up to gain a level 4 NVQ in business and professional admin, whilst her son Sam has just started his career as an apprentice electrician with the Trust’s Estates department and is working toward his NVQ diploma in installing electro technical equipment.

Both apprenticeships are offered by CWP, in partnership with Wirral Metropolitan College.

Lisa said: “I signed up for this apprenticeship to progress my own development and furthering my career. It’s a great opportunity that lets me earn a qualification whilst still working.”

Her son Sam commented: “I’m excited to be starting my apprenticeship with CWP and Wirral Met College. It’s an amazing opportunity that will give me hands on experience as an electrician, and at the end I will be fully qualified. This opportunity will open so many doors for me and set me up with a career.”

CWP apprenticeships are open to anyone living in England or Wales aged 16 or over, and who is not in full-time education.

Gail Griggs, senior vocational learning officer at CWP, said: “CWP provides a variety of apprenticeships for current staff to increase skills and develop; apprenticeships are also an excellent opportunity for new staff of all ages looking to earn money, gain work experience and achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

“Our apprenticeships are flexible and combine practical, on-the-job training with academic study so that you can complete your apprenticeship whilst gaining real skills for the future.”

CWP provides mental health, learning disability and substance misuse services to the people of Cheshire and Wirral, as well as physical community services in Western Cheshire and is a major local employer in Cheshire and the Wirral with 3,400 staff.
